"Happy Valentine's Day."
"Oh yeah, today is Valentine's Day, isn't it? Happy Valentine's Day - I forgot."
"Haha, I said it first. I want credit because I said it first."
"Ok you said it first. Are you cooking breakfast?"
"I guess so."
"Hey, you know someone posted on Facebook that they got heart shaped toast for breakfast this morning."
"I bet a lot of people who do that do it just so that they can post it..."
"Hmmmmm... You're probably right..."
Absolute fact. If this conversation had continued, it would have gone something like this:
"Don't think we're going out tonight, we don't have money for that crap with the hockey game later in the week..."
"I know, I don't even like going out on a holiday anyway - it's always too crowded and the service is terrible. Plus, I'd rather have jewelry. Jewelry that I pick out..."
"Well, that's not happening either. Did you even get me a card?"
"Nope. You know me, I always forget cards, and you don't want presents, so.... But just remember, just because YOU don't want presents doesn't mean I don't want presents."
"Forget it."
"That's alright, I'll get my own present."
If you are single, the only thing that's different is that you just skip the conversation part, and go and get your own present immediately.
Happy Real Life Valentine's Day
